  • Solis provided an update for Shared Belief, a private acquisition who took his record to a perfect six-for-six with a dazzling win in the GI Pacific Classic at Del Mar Aug. 24 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. "Shared Belief couldn’t be doing better," said Solis. "Jerry’s really happy with him, and he’ll run on Sept. 27 in the GI Awesome Again [at Santa Anita], and that should be a great prep for the GI Breeders’ Cup [Classic]. We’ll have five weeks after that. It’s better for him to run, because he’s a lazy work horse. But in the afternoons, he’s a beast." There were questions how Shared Belief would handle the Pacific Classic’s 10 furlongs. Solis said he wasn’t immune to them.
"You always wonder, because he’s not the biggest horse in the world," he said. "And when you run in 1:09 2/5 at Golden Gate, and then go down and win a graded stakes in Southern California going 7/8ths, I questioned whether he could be as good of a route horse as he was sprinting. You just don’t see horses that can sprint and route like that. It’s not normal. He’s just exceptional. But the Awesome Again is another test. He won going 1 1/4 miles on the Polytrack, but now he goes to a different [dirt] track. He won [on dirt] at Los Alamitos, but he’ll be facing better horses in the Awesome Again. If he can handle this, I’ll be pretty confident he’ll be tough in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. He’s definitely done more than we ever expected, and we’re very lucky to be involved." -LM

Shared Belief Remains Undefeated Following Win in Awesome Again Stake

That = abt 7.75 lengths of extra ground

Have never been more proud of Shared Belief! Pushed wide, he grinds out a win in the Awesome Again. Awesome Heart.
  • The seven Classic challenge races yielded six different winners, the most impressive being three-year old Shared Belief. Last year’s Two-Year-Old Male Eclipse Award winner is undefeated in 7 career starts and garnered an automatic berth in the Classic starting gate by virtue of a decisive 2 ¾ length victory over his elders in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar. As if winning the Pacific Classic wasn’t enough to let fans and critics know that the 3-year-old gelding was in fact the real deal, Shared Belief then went on to triumph over his elders once again in a second challenge race, the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita.

Due to an injury, the Jerry Hollendorfer trainee missed the Triple Crown trail, but after two resounding victories over older males, one can’t help but wonder if California Chrome would have taken the first two legs of the Triple Crown had he faced Shared Belief. It does little good to play the “What if…” game, but one thing is for certain, Shared Belief has cemented his status as one of the top 3-year olds in the country in his last two outings.

  • 1. Shared Belief - With one more race to go this year for the unbeaten champion, I believe that× Belief is the most likely horse to be named× Horse of the Year in 2014. He will go into the Breeders’ Cup Classic as the race favorite, and my horse to beat. If he gets it done on November 1, the top honor will be as good as his.
  • Ms. Crusen' is running October 11th in the Cornucopia Stakes. She will be ridden by Angel Rodriguez. She is trained by Hugh McMahon and owned by Matthew Groft.
