I've been doing some research on ranking stallions by their percentage of winners to total runners, stakes winners to total runners, and graded stakes winners to total runners. Basically these are your chances of getting a winner, stakes winner, or graded stakes winner from any colt or filly from these stallions that actually makes it to the track.

Here are some big names, with War Front bolded for comparison:

    Winners/Runners -
    Tapit - 74.08% (stud fee $300,000)
    Malibu Moon - 73.18% (stud fee $95,000)
    Ghostzapper - 73.07% (stud fee $60,000)
    Curlin - 72.63% (stud fee $100,000)
    Kitten's Joy - 70.98% (stud fee $100,000)
    War Front - 67.23% (stud fee $200,000)
    Giant's Causeway - 66.29% (stud fee $85,000)
    Medaglia d'Oro - 64.02% (stud fee $150,000)
Pioneerof the Nile - 62.69% (stud fee $125,000)
    Empire Maker - 61.49% (stud fee $100,000)
    Bernardini - 53.75% (stud fee $100,000)

    Stakes Winners/Runners -
    War Front - 13.18% - $200,000
    Ghostzapper - 12.27% - $60,000
    Medaglia d'Oro - 11.99% - $150,000
    Giant's Causeway - 11.86% - $85,000
    Kitten's Joy - 10.49% - $100,000
    Tapit - 9.86% - $300,000
    Curlin - 8.76% - $100,000
    Malibu Moon - 8.55% - $95,000
    Bernardini - 8.10% - $100,000
    Empire Maker - 7.18% - $100,000
    Pioneerof the Nile - 6.72% - $125,000

    Graded Stakes Winners/Runners -
    Tapit - 8.17% GSWs - $300,000
    War Front - 7.09% - $200,000
    Giant's Causeway - 7.06% - $85,000
    Ghostzapper - 6.40% - $60,000
    Medaglia d'Oro - 6.00% - $150,000
    Bernardini - 5.93% - $100,000
    Empire Maker - 4.17% - $100,000
    Pioneerof the Nile - 3.73% - $125,000
    Kitten's Joy - 3.67% - $100,000
    Malibu Moon - 3.34% - $95,000
    Curlin - 3.28% - $100,000

It's easy to see where War Front's hefty stud fee comes from. Not only is he a consistent producer of winners on the track (about 2 out of every 3 runners is a winner), but he also has top numbers when it comes to producing stakes winners and graded stakes winners. War Front has the highest stakes winners/runners percentage of any stallion I have researched at a whopping 13.18%. He also ranks just below Tapit in terms of his graded stakes winners/runners percentage. Given how well he seems to match with Zenyatta, I am extremely excited for her 2016 War Front foal.

Zenyatta's 4th foal, by War Front, born Monday
    Jonathan Lintner, Courier-Journal April 11, 2016
Champion racehorse Zenyatta successfully delivered her fourth foal Monday at Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky. It's another colt, her connections reported, this one by War Front.
The horse appears to be a dark bay color with a white blaze across his face. Yes, he looks just like Mom.
