Malibu Moon

I figured it was time he had his own discussion being such a "in demand" son of A.P. Indy. He has produced 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb along with many other stakes winners. He also has some nice 2 year olds this year.

  • Mr. Z (Malibu Moon - Stormy Bear, by Storm Cat) (C ) $135K FTKOCT13; In his Churchill debut in Race 3 at Churchill Downs on June 28, Mr. Z battled with the pace setter as they threw down early fractions of :21.54, :45.12 and :57.90 for the first five furlongs. Mr. Z prevailed over his rival by ½ length at the wire in a final time of 1:11.76 for the six furlongs. Mr. Z is a half to the UAE stakes placed Ibn Al Nafis (by Distorted Humor). The dam Stormy Bear is a half to Champion Turf horse CHIEF BEARHEART, Hollywood Derby (G-1) winner EXPLOSIVE RED, stakes winner RUBY RANSOM and the stakes placed runners Memorized and Sundown Serenade. Mr. Z has a 4 x 4 Rasmussen Factor inbreeding to the blue hen Gold Digger, who is Mr. Z’s fourth dam. Gold Digger is also the dam of Mr. Prospector, Malibu Moon’s damsire. Trained by Wayne Lukas, expect to see Mr. Z show up at Saratoga this summer.

  • Malibu Moon's fee for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season is $25,000.
  • Unnamed (Malibu Moon - Tap Your Heels, by Unbridled) (C) !1 Million KEEAPR14; 4F :48.46 (4/26); This million dollar baby is a half brother to leading sire Tapit. His breeding is extremely close to Tapit, as Tapit is by Pulpit, a son of A.P. Indy out of a mare by Mr. Prospector. Malibu Moons is also a son of A.P. Indy out of a mare by Mr. Prospector. Despite this close breeding, Tap Your Heels’ offspring haven’t fared well on the racetrack. Out of nine foals of racing age, five made it to the track and only two, Tapit and his half sister Overandabeauty (by Grand Slam) found the winner’s circle. Here’s hoping this unnamed colt stays sound and fulfills the promise of his pedigree.
  • Stanford (Malibu Moon - Rosy Humor, by Distorted Humor) (C) $550K BESMAR14; :59.55 (1/12) dirt training. He’s the second of three foals to race. A half sibling was unplaced in one start. The dam was 0-3 in her career. The second dam is a ¾ sister to Champion Johannesburg.
  • From Spendthrift Farm facebook: For the second day in a row a very impressive winner by Malibu Moon. Today it was Conquest Eclipse owned by Conquest Stables and trained by Mark Casse. The Moon two yr olds have us very excited!!
  • From Stonestreet Farms facebook: Thrilled with Stanford's winning debut! Pictured here just before shipping to Todd Pletcher. https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t1.0-9/10455359_765883553451275_7683856337894388561_n.jpg

  • Matador / Mark Casse / John Oxley / Julien Leparoux
  • Stanford (Malibu Moon - Rosy Humor, by Distorted Humor) (C) $550K BESMAR14; mentioned on the June 22 Kiddie List. In a professional debut at Monmouth Park, the Todd Pletcher trainee was hustled out of the gate, but needed some time to get going. He was pushed along from fifth, but once Stanford found his stride, he quickly collared the leader around the far turn, took control and drew off by 1 ½ lengths, winning the 5F MSW in a sharp :59.53. He held a fairly straight path down the lane, but appears to slightly paddle with his left fore. Stanford has the conformation and pedigree to handle two turns. Stanford is the second of his dam’s of three foals to race. A half sibling was unplaced in one start. The dam was 0-3 in her career, but this female family is a product of careful Claiborne farm breeding. The second dam Show Me the Roses is a ¾ sister to Champion JOHANNESBURG.
  • Conquest Eclipse (Malibu Moon - Grand Traverse Bay, by Repriced) (F) $179K KEESEP13; zipped gate to wire in a 6F MSW on Sunday at Churchill Downs. She was challenged briefly at the ½ pole, but let out another notch and won comfortably by 1 ½ lengths. Trained by Mark Casse, Conquest Eclipse stopped the clock in 1:11.48. All of her dam’s three foals have raced, but Conquest Eclipse is the first to win. Her unraced dam is a half to Sweet Damsel, who bore Travers Stakes winner and sire COLONEL JOHN.
  • Touch the Moon (Malibu Moon - Touch Here, by Touch Gold) (F) $450K FTFMAR14; 4F :47.67 (2/432 gate breeze; Mentioned on the 6/25/14 Kiddie List. Her dam is a half sister to KY Oaks heroine SUMMERLY and to stakes placed Let ’em Go. The second dam Here I Go placed in the Golden Rod at two. Touch the Moon has the pedigree to prefer longer distances. This was her first gate breeze and she shows a series of strong works. Keep an eye on her.
  • Zadina is running July 5th in the Ellis Park Turf Stakes. She will be risdden by Ricardo Santana Jr. She is trained by Helen Pitts and owned by Rock Ridge Racing.

  • Wow thanks @QueenZFan! I would like to see Zen bred to him in the future.
No problem and I think they would be a perfect match.
  • Sweet Maya (Malibu Moon - Special Ballad, by Saint Ballado) $125K KEESEP13; She’s a half to ACAFFELLA, winner of the Angel Island Stakes as a 2YO. Special Ballad is a half to Cowdin Stakes hero TWILIGHT TIME and stakes winner UNINHIBITED SONG. Another stakes placed half sister bore Matron (G-2) winner MISS BEHAVIOR.
  • Matador is running July 6th in the Queen's Plate Stakes. He will be ridden by Julien Leparoux. He is trained by Mark Casse and owned by John Oxley.
  • On Oaks Day is running July 10th in a maiden special weight for 2 year old fillies going 6 furlongs on turf sat Belmont. She will be ridden by Jose Ortiz. She is trained by Rudy Rodriguez and owned by Michael Dubb and Bethleham Stables.
  • Dark Rain is running July 12th in a maiden special weight for 2 year old fillies going one mile on turf at Ellis Park. She will be ridden by Calvin Borel. She is trained by Ian Wilkes and owned by Dennis Farkas.
  • On Oaks Day (Malibu Moon - Robbery Suspect, by Tactical Cat) $80K (RNA) KEESEP13; She’s been working very well at Aqueduct, including a last bullet from the gate. Trainer Rudy Rodriguez is 0-13 in debut turf runners, but there’s always that first time. Robbery Suspect is a half to Triple Bend (G-1) hero POHAVE and a half to the dam of FL Oaks winner TAPICAT. Third dam is Champion TRACK ROBBERY, grand-dam of BC Classic shocker CAT THIEF. One of On Oaks Day’s half siblings have placed on the lawn, but otherwise, this is a pedigree filled with dirt attributes. She’s still classy enough to hit the board, but will likely want more distance. Contender.
  • Elraazy....she looks so elegant!
