It was so much fun watching her come into the world! Thegaboutit did a great job for a first time mommy and that filly was ready to stand up with her umbilical cord still attached. lol

I watched it too! Beautiful little filly and very active and funny this morning. She was ready to go as soon as she was born. Mom is very sweet with her especially considering it was her first foal.
Great news on Groupie Doll's 1st foal, premie Tapit colt who spent time @roodandriddle. Wayne Sweezey reports he's "doing super well". He left Timber Town about 3 months ago for Whisper Hill in Citra, Fla. "She'll keep him to race, I promise you that, she won't sell him."
NOTE: Not a 2016 foal but i wasn't sure were else to put this?
When this happens do they sell together as a package? Trying not to be stupid here, I just don't know.
Yeah the foals are just too young to be separated from their dams at that point. Once they're weaned they can be sold separately. It always makes for a damn cute sight though at the sales when you see newborn foals.
I wonder if babies get foaled on New Year's Eve, or even sooner. It's probably happened. I wonder if they try to conceal the birth, if that's even possible.
Personally, I think there should be a "grandfathered-in" clause for foals born prematurely after Dec 21st to be registered for the following year. For a premature foal to be declared as an official 2-year old and eligible for juvenile races when it is only a year old is stupid. When Endless Summer won those juvenile races as an official 3-year old, he was actually only 2, after starting life as a preemie.

Hardly a premie! There is almost a 2 month range in equine gestation and anything can change the amount of time any mare has to cook any foal, no matter how many times she's been bred. It is the drive to get these early January foals so they'll have a slight age/maturity advantage on those born a month or two later that results in... foals who arrive "early." Breed a month later then there is no need to change the rules to accommodate the miscalculation.

He also probably wouldn't have picked up his "deserved" price at auction because he was premature.
He was a '97 Boxing Day surprise, but they hid him for a few days and registered him as being foaled on January 2nd of 1998.
