Ben's Cat

Since he has many fans I figured I would make this discussion about him.

He really is a fun racehorse to watch! I wasn't sure he was going to win his last race but he surged right before the wire and pulled it off.

Here's a BloodHorse video about him that was just posted today: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/videos/211938/bens-cat-better-than-ever

EDIT: Whoops! I posted before I saw your second post.
  • Thanks, QueenZFan! He richly deserves his own thread. I agree with whoever said he should be considered for the Vox Populi award. The wise old campaigners are the best.

I saw the race. Thought he was beaten when he comes flying up and puts those young'uns away. All who are worried about Coz. Think I heard his trainer say Ben's Cat didn't start until he was 4.

    That was due to injury.

    Just love Ben's Cat!
  • "Vox Populi" Award. He is deserving. I have no idea how to get him on the ballot.
  • Someone already posted the names of those on the committee. Can't remember the thread... maybe Junior's.

Yes...the most recent reference of the Vox Populi Committee members was posted by jen_bloom on 5/23/16 in the California Chrome discussion...scroll down on page 255 to find that committee list...

  • I posted the committee members, but I don't know how you contact them or if they take public input. It seems like there should be some way to vote on candidates for a "vox populi" award, but I couldn't figure out if that was the case.
  • Ben;s Cat is running June 4th in the Pennsylvania Governor's Cup for 3 year olds and upward going 5 furlongs on turf at Penn National. He will be ridden by Trevor McCarthy. He is trained by King Leatherbury and owned by The Jim Stable.

Maybe you saw my comment in The Horseplayer game thread? :) Maybe you did not. Not trying to steal your thunder. Best. KMM
  • Kinda wish they would retire this old warrior. I am always so afraid he is going to be injured in a race. Godspeed to this great old guy.

The horse enjoys it. The trainer is in his 80s and racing is what both thrive on. Leatherbury will take great care of Ben's Cat.

Indefatigable Ben's Cat Targets PA Gov's Cup
By Erich Zimney The Blood-Horse June 1, 2016
Sitting fourth at the furlong pole of a five-furlong turf sprint with seemingly nowhere to run isn't exactly a recipe for success. Some horses pack it in and retreat. Others persevere onward and grab a piece of the purse.
But what do you do when you're a 10-year-old with 55 lifetime starts under your belt? Naturally, you surge, split horses, and get up by a neck to win the same six-figure stakes race for the fifth time in your career.
At least, that's what Ben's Cat does.

    He finished 3rd of 7.
  • I was hoping for a win for him yesterday, but he still ran a good race. Love Ben's Cat!

  • Happy to see Ben's Cat got up for third! What a warrior! Love that horse!
  • Good wishes for a win and a safe race! Go Ben!!
  • Safe trip wished for Ben's Cat! A win would be great, too, but a healthy, happy sound horse is the most important.
