Naughty Stallions

This is an old blog. I don't even remember what brought me here. But this was a fascinating read. I didn't have the time before, but I am going to read it again. Wonder if any of the new boys since 2009 belong in this group. I am going to see if there is one for mares.

  • Good read. Scary stuff!
  • Where's War Relic! Tiznow's ancestor War Relic reportedly killed one of his grooms, he was just that vicious. Small wonder where Tiznow got his crankiness from.

I always heard Hail to Reason descendants were tough as nails and could be unpleasant. Malibu Moons I have come across (males) are very alpha and in your face.

Someone mentioned him in the comments section of the Behind the Bit blog (first link).
  • This is an old forum, too, not as old as he othere posted above, starting back in early 2015. A lot of interesting info here including a video clip posted on November 16, 2015. It is an interview with Joe "The Hat" Thomas from Windsfields Farms about their stallions. It dates from about 1981. The interview includes clips of each stallion as he is discussed. The stallions include Northern Dancer, Halo, Smarten, Assert, Gregorian, Master Willie, Caveat, and The Minstrel. Note the black cat in he lower right corner as the two men discussed the horses, were brought out one by one. The cat is lying or sitting in the grass and couldn't care less about any of them. It certainly wasn't intimidated by them.

When discussing Smarten, Joe mentioned that his first crop was racing this year including Smart N Strike who collapsed and died after crossing the finishing line in third place in the Arlington-Washington Futurity at Arlington Park. It was reported August,27, 1983, so this clip has to be from at least 1983. See article below:
