Barn 14 at the Fair Grounds has been placed under quarantine by the State of Louisiana’s Department of Agriculture after a horse residing in the barn tested positive for a strain of Equine Herpes Virus known as EHV-1. The infected horse, an unraced 2-year-old filly trained by Alice Cohn, was euthanized Monday.
Horses currently stabled in Barn 14 will not be permitted to leave the property until the quarantine has been lifted and will only be permitted to train during a specific period after regular training hours. All residents of Barn 14 will continue to be monitored and is none show signs of or test positive for the virus, the quarantine will be lifted at the end of the standard 14-day period.
The quarantine will not affect horses shipping in for races as long as they have the proper vaccination documents.

Test results have been returned for the two horses who spiked temperatures earlier this morning at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, La.
The horse in Barn 14, trained by Tom Amoss, returned a negative result. The horse in the receiving barn, trained by Chris Davis, returned a positive result for the “wild strain.”
As a result, the quarantine timeline on Barn 14 remains unchanged, with a current end date of Jan. 13 at the discretion of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture. The receiving barn is now under quarantine until Jan. 16 at the discretion of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture.

The good news for fans of grade I winner Gun Runner is that the son of Candy Ride is officially targeting the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), Winchell Thoroughbreds manager David Fiske confirmed Jan. 3
From articla
Since his breakout victory over older foes in the Nov. 25 Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs, Gun Runner has been at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots with trainer Steve Asmussen's string preparing for his 4-year-old debut. With the entire Fair Grounds backstretch currently under quarantine due to an EHV-1 outbreak, no horses are permitted to ship in or out of the track—an issue that could complicate both potential deals with shareholders to get Gun Runner into the Pegasus and his ability to arrive in South Florida in time for the race.

Even though the entire stabling area at Fair Grounds Race Course is under a restricted-movement quarantine for multiple outbreaks of equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1), when a fifth horse tested positive for the non-neurogenic type of EHV-1 on Jan. 3, the animal was allowed to be shipped off the backstretch to an attending veterinarian’s private farm, a spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF) confirmed Wednesday.

Due to the equine herpesvirus outbreak at Fair Grounds, officials with the Ocala Breeders' Sale Company will not allow any horse that has been in Louisiana since
Dec. 10 onto its grounds for the upcoming winter mixed sale scheduled for Jan. 25-26.
The BloodHorse reports that OBS becomes the second sale company to place restrictions on Louisiana horses, following the earlier decision by Keeneland officials for the current January sale

Fair Grounds Race Course testing positive for equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) more than quadrupling between Jan. 12 and 13, both the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and track officials are scrambling to improvise temporary stabling on the property in an effort to keep infected horses separate from the general population.

Articles have 3 types in them
1 a strain of Equine Herpes Virus known as EHV-1. (neurogenic I think)
2 a positive result for the “wild strain.”
3 the non-neurogenic type of EHV-1
So far, I haven't read the contact point or source.
As a stable and horse owner, you must be very concerned.
I built the Discussion going back just a over a month. This shows how fast
the virus can spread.
Keta
Let me clarify those EHV1 testing costs
1st round per horse @$180
2nd round per house @$122
Pretty pricey stuff
Appreciate your contributions to the Forum.

New Protocols, More Tests: Fair Grounds EHV-1 Outbreak ‘At Least A 45-Day Process’
by Chelsea Hackbarth The Paulick Report .| 01.13.2017
As the first group of barns at the Fair Grounds Race Course near the end of their state-mandated equine herpesvirus quarantines, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture has been working to define the procedures which will allow those barns to be released from quarantine. Following a meeting earlier in the week between horsemen, USDA representatives, veterinarians, and outside advisors, those protocols have nearly been finalized.
According to assistant state veterinarian Dr. Dianne Stacey, any barn that has held a horse which tested positive for EHV-1, whether it be the wild strain or the neurogenic strain, is automatically quarantined for a period of 14 days. The horse which demonstrated the positive test is placed in isolated quarantine for 21 days; those with the wild strain are kept separate from those with the neurogenic strain.
In order to get out of quarantine, all the horses in the affected barn have to demonstrate two negative EHV-1 tests, spaced at least 72 hours apart, as well as undergo final checks by state veterinarians
