  • Anyone hear anything on Center Court outside of Foal Patrol? Starting to wonder if they are at a vets as the last days of the Video many witnessed obvious medical tending to CC-18 and then the cameras all went silent and offline. When they are online it is just showing the original small paddock that CC and 3 other mares were staying in before being moved to a larger pasture. There has also been no new Blog or Videos on the two either which is not at all the way they have done for the other mares in the program.

THREE CHIMNEYS: STOPCHARGINGMARIA AND MARIA-18 UPDATE...
    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog

We've earlier discussed in our forum that many breeding farms leave their mares and foals outside overnight when the weather begins to warm up after winter. Here is a new posting in SCM's blog that confirms this change of schedule. We get to see SCM and Maria-18's paddock buddies as well. There is a moment in the video when (I believe) Shook Up's Tapit foal grazes next to SCM. SCM gently nuzzles the Tapit foal on its neck telling the foal, I'd like to graze in that very spot. The foal quickly scurries off...these foals know who is boss in the paddock!

    New Routine...
    Posted on 4/13/2018
"Stopchargingmaria and her filly are adjusting well to their new schedule. They're spending most of their time in this 30-acre paddock with several other mares and foals. We'll see them in the stall every morning around 6 and then around noon time, they're back outside. Chris Baker explains in this video..." — Quote from Foal Patrol Stopchargingmaria blog.

    MAMA'S MILK MAKES A DIFFERENCE...

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/gallery

Although this is not a new video...
Below, is a very informative video from Three Chimneys Gallery, and you'll once again, get to see the other mares and their foals that SCM & Maria-18 shared the paddock with before they moved to the larger 30-acre paddock. Once again, SCM's paddock buddies/foals are: Baby Betty (a 2004 bay by El Corredor) with her Candy Ride colt, Miss Always Ready (a 2012 dark bay/brown by More Than Ready) and her Malibu Moon filly and the grey mare is Shook Up (a 2012 grey/roan by Tapit) with her Pioneerof the Nile colt. The fourth mare (chestnut?) and her foal are privately owned so their identities are withheld.

Note: Please bear with any inaccuracies as I can't hear clearly, what is being said in this video below due to technical issues with my computer's audio...
Dr. Steve Jackson (Equine Nutrition Specialist) provides an overview of the nutritional diet these mares are fed to produce literally 20-50lbs of milk/day or about 20 liters of milk/day! That is equivalent to about 3-3.5% of the mare's body weight.

It is of utmost importance to keep the mares metabolically strong & healthy so they can recover from their pregnancy as well as provide the needed nutrition (in their milk) for their foals and unborn fetus (if the mare has already been bred). Dr. Jackson showed in this video, small cubes (large pellets) of a supplemental feed that contains all the vital nutrients such as calcium carbonate, etc. which are essential in producing nutritious milk.

THREE CHIMNEYS: STOPCHARGINGMARIA & MARIA 18...
THEY LOVE TO GROOM EACH OTHER!

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog

    5/14/18, MONDAY
10:03a EST: Ahh! Watched SCM and Maria-18 grooming each other. They do this quite often and it is a joy to watch: Mama scratching Maria's topline, croup and dock...while Maria nibbles on mama's chest, shoulders and neck.

    5/15/18, TUESDAY
7:45a EST: Noticed that SCM and Maria-18 are sharing the grain bucket. Just like Bird Town and BT-18 the other night! Maria has gotten very big indeed and is much better behaved whenever I observe her in the stall. Not an "in your face pesky mosquito" with mama these days. Maria is more calm, respectful yet observant...she loves to follow what mama does in the stall...especially with regard to eating. But Maria knows when to step away and give mama her space. 7:47a LOL! Maria is now using the underside of the empty grain bucket to scratch her head and top of her neck...moving back and forth, back and forth. Funny!
Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm on 5/15/2018 at 7:51a EST

7:53-7:56a EST: Maria-18 is now eating alfalfa side-by-side with mama SCM. But still visits the milkbar quite often in between sharing solid food with mama. You can see how big Maria has gotten standing near mama SCM...but there is a bit of camera distortion...LOL!
Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm on 5/15/2018 at 7:53a EST

8:10a EST: AHH! SCM and Maria are doing their daily grooming routine. They give each other a good thorough scratching indeed...it's a ritual/habit for the pair.
Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm on 5/15/2018 at 8:12a EST

8:13a EST: OH NO! Maria gets another anal temperature reading just now when an older attendant comes in briefly to take a reading. Mama was watching very closely when this was being done. At least Maria seems to be used to this and didn't protest when the older attendant lifted her tail and stuck the thermometer in her butt.
8:21a EST: LOL! After another mutual grooming, mama decided to go to the outdoor gate. But Maria still has an itchy butt and is busy scratching her butt against the stall door.
9:10a EST: Looks like insects are bothering both mama SCM and Maria right now. SCM is wildly swooshing her tail and lifting her hind legs to kick at something by her bag. Maria also turned her head and was scratching near her left stifle but almost fell over when she tried to lift her left hind leg to scratch.

    Stopchargingmaria 45-Day Ultra Sound
    May 9th, 2018
"Ultrasounds are used to monitor the early growth of the developing fetus as mares go through their 11-12 gestation period. As the fetus enlarges, it becomes almost impossible to see the entire image.

This is a video of a 45-day Ultrasound scan of 2019 Stopchargingmaria (in foal to Tapit) taken this morning. The kidney shaped image to the left is the developing fetus, the strand to the right is umbilical structures. In the video, the pulsing orange image is the beating heart of the developing fetus."

AN UPDATE OF MARIA-18 AT 4 MONTHS!

    https://www.foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/gallery

    6/2/2018:
At 4 Months...Maria-18 Is Doing Great and Hitting All Her Milestones!
Maria-18, born on 2/2/18 (by Pioneerof the Nile), celebrated her 4-month birthday on 6/2/18. Below is a video update narrated by Chris Baker (Chief Operating Officer of Three Chimneys) on SCM and Maria-18 below. Mama SCM really put her "stamp" on her filly indeed! As Chris said in the video, "Maria-18 is a "carbon copy" of her mom even in her proportions...hopely with any luck, she'll be like her mom as a racehorse as well! Three Chimneys is really, really pleased with how she is developing. She's doing great...doing everything well!"

6:22a EST: LOL! I just peeked into Stopchargingmaria's webcam and was surprised to see this...

image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/19/2018 at 6:22a EST

I think someone removed the webcam from SCM's stall or outdoor paddock, laid it on a counter by a window...but forgot to turn off the camera. But it's relaxing watching the tall trees swaying in the wind with an occasional bird or two flying by. LOL!【⍨】

    MARIA-18 CLEANS UP AFTER MAMA!

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog

    6/6/18, WEDNESDAY:
11:05a EST: Lol! Mama just made some poop and Maria-18 came over to sniff. I was afraid Maria was going to eat some poop again (like when Maria was a few days old)...But this time, Maria-18 after a bit of investigation...started to stomp at the poop and began burying it under the straw bedding. LOL! You can say she was cleaning up after mama.

▼Mama SCM just made a pile of poop while eating her alfalfa. Maria-18 walks over to sniff the "stuff" out.
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/6/2018 at 11:05a EST

▼After Maria-18's investigation, she begins to paw at the pile and is covering up the poop with the stall bedding!
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/6/2018 at 11:06a EST

11:20a EST: Peeked in again and saw that the staff are leading the mares and foals out to the paddock. Looks like Stopchargingmaria and Maria-18 are the first to be led out...followed by the grey mare, Shook Up with her colt. The next pairs of mares and foals I believe are Miss Always Ready with her Malibu Moon filly...the privately own mare and foal and finally Baby Betty and her colt.

▼The Parade of mares and foals heading out to the paddock is led by Stopchargingmaria and Maria-18...Followed by the grey mare, Shook Up & her Pioneerof the Nile colt...
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/6/2018 at 11:20a EST

▼They were followed by the almost black Miss Always Ready & her Malibu Moon filly, the privately owned chestnut mare & foal and last in the procession is Baby Betty & her Candy Ride colt.

    MARIA SLEEPS LIKE A GROWN-UP!

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog
Maria-18 has already been weaned, but these are backlogged observations made a week before her "teacher", favorite milkbar and grooming partner, mama SCM was taken to another location...

    6/27/18, WEDNESDAY:
9:00a-10:36a EST: I have been watching SCM and her filly, Maria-18 in the stall and for several days. But I was unable to capture a moment when Maria slept laterally while lying down. I believe she is one of the few foals featured in Foal Patrol who has already mastered and prefers the art of sleeping while standing up. I was hoping to get a better full body shot but SCM and Maria-18 preferred doing their standing snooze halfway off view of the webcam.
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/27/2018 at 10:01a EST

Here is a typical sweet photo of the pair grooming each other...a daily ritual between the two.
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 6/27/2018 at 10:02a EST

Maria shares the grains and hay with mama, and she still visits the milkbar! But she has really grown quite a bit in size! No longer is she the pesky mosquito bothering mama...she has indeed learned good manners from SCM.

    6/28/18, THURSDAY:
8:34a EST: Today, Maria-18 is getting her hooves trimmed. Apparently, Maria-18 loves the attention given to her by the handlers and cooperates willingly.

MARIA IS ALL ALONE IN HER STALL LOOKING FOR MAMA!

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog

    7/9/18, MONDAY:
6:45a-8:16a EST: I peeked in and was surprised to find that Maria-18 was all alone in her stall! She keeps looking around for mama and whinnies constantly...she is also making a lot of poop. The little girl is in distress. Maria-18 was born on 2/2/2018 and is 5 months old now. I wonder if they have weaned Maria-18 or if Mama was taken out of the stall to see the vet or being worked/groomed outside. Poor Maria-18 is circling the stall sniffing the ground as she circles then keeps looking outside, or searching for mama from the stall entrance facing the barn corridor. Calling out...Mama! Mama!
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 7:51a EST

image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 7:58a EST

image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 8:05a EST

8:17-8:35a EST: It appears that Maria-18 has exhausted herself searching for mama and appears to be sleeping while standing up. She has been in this standing position with eyes closed for about 20 minutes now.
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 8:19a EST

8:58a EST: A female attendant with a pink top took Maria-18 out of her stall for a few minutes and returned her back in around 9:02a EST. I'm not sure if they gave a calming medication for Maria-18 off webcam.
image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 8:58a EST

9:00a-11:15a EST: Maria-18 remains alone in the stall...She's still rather anxious but is slowly calming down and not running around wildly in circles looking and occasionally calling out for Mama. Maria-18 keeps looking outside her stall window for mama or listening for any familiar calls from mama. Poor baby. Meanwhile over the stall partition on the right, the neighboring mare is still with her foal, I believe it is one of SCM's paddock mates.

image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 9:10a EST

11:24-11:27a EST: The webcam now switches to the outside showing a band of 3 mares and their foals are now being led out to the paddock. I recognize Miss Always Ready with her stocking legs as the second mare. But I don't see SCM and Maria-18, nor the grey, Shook Up and her Pioneerof the Nile colt either. Perhaps SCM and Shook Up were both separated from their foals this morning. I wonder if Three Chimneys will provide a clarification update.

image Image clip by Foal Patrol from Three Chimneys Farm webcam on 7/9/2018 at 11:25a EST

11:30a EST: The webcam now switches to SCM and Maria-18's empty stall. hmmm. I hope an update from Three Chimneys will be posted in the near future...
  • Paniolo_Gal If you search on SCM-18 Blog you can read where SCM-18 has been weaned and is not settling really well and the Barn Manager states he will give Updated Video of SCM-18 when she settles more.
  • If you read the Blog you'll see that SCM-18 was weaned on July 10th and settled down by July 19th.

There are two blogs on the subject.
  • ABOUT MARIA-18'S WEANING...
Thanks @AllZensonTrack and @Zenyen for your comments that Maria-18 had already been weaned. Watching her live, I really felt sorry for Maria-18 as she was indeed having a very difficult time without her mama SCM, (her best friend) as the images shown above reveal. If horses could cry, Maria-18 was a good example.

I had a draft prepared to post with Three Chimney's 3/10/18 blog announcement & video about Maria-18's weaning. I was going to post this announcement next...but you both beat me to it!

I am very aware about Maria-18's weaning as I witnessed it as it happened. I guess you missed my posting from July 31, 2018 shown above with the images and observations made on 6/27/18 and 6/28/17. My introduction to that post mentioned that Maria-18 had already been weaned.

Just a reminder, these postings are backlogged observations I made as I watched on the live webcam back in June-July but due to personal issues that took precedence over forum posts, I didn't have the time/energy to format images and observations to make a post in a timely manner. I am playing catch up right now...time permitting.

Just a note: Maria-18 was actually weaned on 7/9/18, but Three Chimneys made the official announcement the next day on the 7/10/18 blog. (wink!)

Right now, Stopchargingmaria's webcam has been offline most of the time...whenever I checked in. I guess my timing has been off on getting to see how Maria-18 is currently doing.

    July 19th, 2018
"Stopchargingmaria18 has been almost a text book foal! From birth, she's taken everything in stride -- with confidence.

Foal Patrol fans may recall back in January, Chris Baker told us "Maria's" strong personality, no doubt helped her gain notoriety and winnings as a highly respected racehorse and those characteristics would probably carry over into motherhood. Chris was right! It seems "Maria" has done all the right things with her foal...of course with the help of the amazing team at Three Chimneys.

Stopchargingmaria18 seems ready to take on the world and we're excited to see where she goes! "

A NEW ROUTINE AFTER MARIA-18'S WEANING

    https://foalpatrol.com/horses/stopchargingmaria/blog

    7/18/18,WEDNESDAY:
9:30a EST: I'm not sure if this is definitely Stopchargingmaria standing by the gate but this bay mare has a tell-tale right rear sock and a hint of a star partially covered by her forelock. In the past, when SCM was with Maria-18 in this paddock, standing by the gate was one of her favorite hangouts in the paddock. There is also a grey mare close by which could be Shook Up. I'm not sure of the bay...might be Baby Betty, idk.
