I know this may seem early but with the 2019 breeding season coming to an end and some horses already being retired I figured I would make this discussion now.
I'm hearing through breeders on Facebook that new Spendthrift stallions for 2020 will include: Mitole, Coal Front, Vino Rosso, Omaha Beach, and Maximus Mischief.
NOOOOO!!!! Shadai bought the breeding rights to Bricks and Mortar, and he will ship there after his 2019 campaign is complete! I so wished he would stay here....
I don't get it either. Did you see the one comment: ........$5,000 stud fee???? The horse sold at Keeneland for $18,000 and won three minor races. You can claim horses like this almost any day of the week..........
Horses often stand regionally just based on their pedigrees. There are a couple of stallions in MD who do just that (Editorial, No Never No More, etc.). Housatonic Bloodstock (who respect a lot) did a write up on Redesdale after they and WVS bought a lifetime breeding right to him: http://www.housatonicbloodstock.com/stallions/redesdale/
He does actually have a chance to succeed at stud though, since he's being supported pretty heavily. In his first book, he bred to 82 mares, which is really solid for a first year stallion in a regional market. He's also a gorgeous animal, physically.
Fiber Sonde in WV has ended up being an extremely successful stallion solely based on pedigree (by Unbridled's Song, and a half-brother to Speightstown and Irap).
I was really skeptical about him when I saw him standing stud in NY last year too, but I'm willing to give him a shot.
In related news, I can tell you guys that WVS will be announcing a new stallion standing in MD for 2020 sometime in the near future though. I'm reallyy excited about the stallion they chose though, and I expect I'll be investing in him myself.
I'm familiar with Fiber Sonde....he has pedigree, he has sired stakes runners, is a half to a proven stallion, has beautiful conformation and his stud fee remains at $1,000. So I get why someone would be interested in using him. Heck, I'd take a chance on him. I wish nothing but good luck for Redesdale and his connections, I'm just not keen on him at this time.
Can't wait to hear about the stallion you may be investing in.

I love Joe and the crew but I was not blown away by Redesdale, especially with a proven son of Speightstown already in the barn. He’s good looking enough but Central Banker blows him out of the water.
