In addition to honoring excellence in 17 equine and human categories this year, the 49th annual Eclipse Awards on Jan. 23 will pay tribute to those Thoroughbreds who have moved on to a second athletic career. The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) is inviting fans to participate in saluting Off-Track Thoroughbreds by submitting photos or videos of their OTTBs on Twitter and Facebook using the #NeverEclipsed hashtag.

Mitole earned the older dirt male title, and there were several colts with better juvenile seasons in 2019 than StC had. Including Eight Rings, Dennis' Moment, Thousand Words...
Would've liked to see it be at least closer than it was between MS and CoH, but oh well.

Multiple grade 1 winner and champion Maximum Security could produce another "first" for racing but in a manner not desired by any owner or trainer. The 4-year-old colt could become the first Eclipse Award winner to be stripped of his championship title if the March 9 federal indictment against trainer Jason Servis for the covert obtaining and use of adulterated and mislabeled performance-enhancing drugs results in a conviction or the retesting of previous blood samples reveals previously undiscovered positives.
As of now, the Eclipse Awards rules do not include any procedure for removing a championship title from a horse or person, according to Keith Chamblin, chief operating officer for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and a member of the Eclipse Award Steering Committee.
