  • Too bad I have to work Friday, or I'd go to his welcoming party.

He should do very well there.
  • I thought it was suppose to KHP??? Who knows what happened...Lava Man was suppose to retire and didn't. It'll be fine because both places put the horses welfare first.

When rapid redux's trainer said kentucky horse park he meant to say old friends. he doesnt know which is which. no really he doesnt
  • This is wonderful news. Hope Little Silver Charm will show him around.:)
  • Well KHP and Old Friends aren't that far from each other--mileage wise. And as RT Fitch would say "It's About the Horse". So anytime awareness is raised in a good and positive way for animals--it isn't bad.

RR will have a great time at OF. He'll get lots of love, and if he chooses to be left alone--he'll be granted that too. He'll have a shed to go wander into--to get out of the rain if he chooses. And he can nap in the sun. It's all good.

Michael will have fun finding out what his favorite treats are! RR may not know what apples are--some horses don't like them and will spit them out.

LSC--that Charmer! He's housebroken, they let him out of his pen and he goes up to the house. Knocks on the door to be let him (he paws with a foreleg) in. He and Michael love to watch reruns of Mr. Ed.
  • Thanks Margaret. Can't you see him now, napping in the sun?
God Bless KHP and Old Friends.

Now that's a horse and a good friend.
  • Little Silver Charm is the ORIGINAL Silver Charm! Silver Charm the tb decided he liked the name so much he borrowed it for his papers!

  • So glad to see this article on Rapid Redux! I love that his new best friend is another Eclipse winner. And so funny that he didn't know what little Silver Charm was. (When my grandson shows his horse, and there is a "mini" Show in the next ring, lots of the horses "freak out" when the minis walk by in a group.LOL). Look forward to hopefully see Rapid Redux next year, along with the others retireees. Kudos to all his connecctions for picking the best place for him to spend the rest of his days. He truly deserves this!

New picture of him on old friends fb page....eating leaves off his tree....says he got that visitors mean carrots right away....and that he is very friendly with everyone ...Gulch got him right in on it....one safe and loved
  • I am so glad to see that Rapid Redux is so happy. He really deserves his enjoyable retirement in such a wonderful place. Can't wait to hopefully see him aand his buddies, next year. He has always had a special place in my heart!
  • It's too bad RR couldn't have a second career, he is a strong and fit horse!
  • He could have, but his owners didn't want him to. They decided that he had earned his retirement
  • I am going to the old friends in georgetown in a 3 weeks does anyone know if you can pet the horses .
  • Yes, you can pet the horses--most of them, anyway. Not all of them are fond of being petted. Your tour guide will tell you who likes to be petted or scratched, and where. Some of them love being fussed over. In particular, Little Silver Charm, Marquetry, Patton, Clever Allemont, and Bull inthe Heather are touchy-feely. All the horses on the tour like to receive treats! Your tour guide will provide a big bucket of carrots. Mints are also available in the office. Commentator is especially fond of mints, and Special Ring likes them too. The horses are good with kids, if that matters to you.

Have fun, and don't forget your camera.
  • Be sure and take some wipes. When you feed them carrots, they tend to drool down your arm.

Dan The Bluegrass Man is a wonderful story an a very nice horse. When I saw Afternoon Delite, he looked as if he could go to the track right then.
  • FYI, Commentator may not be there when you visit. He is taking his fine self to New York for the Saratoga meet. He'll be at Old Friends Cabin Creek for the duration. Special Ring will be happy to eat Tator's mints for him. Ring will also show you his tattoo.
  • When to Old Friends horse farm yesterday what cool place I saw Sunshine Forever, Creator,Gulch,Rapid Redux he was in the barn.He goes to the paddock after all of the people go home.Popcorn Deelites was the in the movie Sea Biscuit. If anyone goes to Georgetown Ky needs to vist Old Friends.
  • Trainer Wells Pleads Guilty to Rigging Races
By Frank Angst, The Blood-Horse December 17, 2014
Trainer David Wells pleaded guilty in a Pennsylvania court of common pleas Dec. 16 to rigging races by administering drugs to horses on race day at Penn National Race Course.
Under an agreement, the guilty plea is expected to result in dismissal of federal charges against the 50-year-old trainer.
Wells had faced federal charges when he and three others at Penn National were arrested in November 2013. Wells pleaded guilty in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Deborah Curcillo to a charge of rigging publicly exhibited contests, in this case Thoroughbred races.
In entering the plea, Wells admitted that he orally or by hypodermic injection illegally administered drugs to horses he trained and raced to give him and his horses an advantage in the races. He also admitted that he was fully aware that this was in violation of racing rules and regulations.
Wells also said that efforts were made to conceal this activity from the public and the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission. The criminal complaint alleged that the activity took place between 2008 and 2012.
Best known as the trainer of Special Eclipse Award winner Rapid Redux, Wells will face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Judge Curcillo ordered the preparation of a presentence investigation report and set sentencing for Jan. 29.
In an Oct. 14 agreement, the U.S. Attorney said any federal charges would be dismissed following a guilty plea in Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas. Federal authorities showed interest in the case because horse racing conducts pari-mutuel wagering across state lines.
