WHERE THE STARS COME OUT : A GUIDE TO CHELTENHAM 2013
    http://thevaulthorseracing.wordpress.com/
  • We are so lucky to have Abigail among us! Awesome info, and I cannot wait to watch some of these races, especially Sprinter Sacre on Wednesday!!!
  • Hi there everyone. As we wait to see Paynter's return, here's my latest for THE VAULT on this year's Royal Ascot, which gets underway June 18th. It's Part I of a 2-part series, partly because the fields are still sorting themselves out in terms of entries.

    ENJOY!

  • JOURNEY OF THE HEART: A VISIT TO THE BLACK HILLS WILD HORSE SANCTUARY
November 10, 2016 by THE VAULT: horse racing past and present
” To be great is to go on,
To go on is to be far,
To be far is to return.” (Tao Te Ching)
My earliest memories were punctuated by the belief that the essence of the horse — any horse — was their ability to sense the human heart.

So, you have me really confused.

    Thanks for clearing that up.
I was beginning to wonder that when I post there could be
    a negative response.
Nice to know that isn't happening.

In another Discussion, "Has anyone heard of Kincsem"
    I gave this answer.
Abigail Anderson writes an outstanding blog on
horses and their history. Here is info on Kincsem.
There are addtional links in it.

“UGLY DUCKLINGS,” OR THOROUGHBRED CHAMPIONS IN DISGUISE
“UGLY DUCKLINGS” #1: TOO UGLY TO EVER BE A CHAMPION
Perhaps we can’t help it. Horses are beautiful animals and thoroughbreds can be exquisite. And no matter how often horse folk remind us that beauty and talent don’t necessarily go hand in hand, it’s all too easy to ignore when you’ve got a plain bay standing next to a magnificent chestnut…….

KINCSEM: THE MYSTERY AND MAJESTY OF AN IMMORTAL
    Published September 20, 2013
I have wanted to write about this great thoroughbred since THE VAULT first opened its doors, but the available information about KINCSEM was scarce and, well, boring…..
Then three great finds and one great “horse source” changed everything

And, Abigail brings these horses to life. It is a fun read. Plus she shares her family history and personal passions.

She is brilliant, beautiful. bold and beloved. But she is also a living work of art, wrought over more than two centuries.

I forget that longstanding website, something like thoroughbred traditions, but they had pictures, drawings, pedigrees, of all of the historical horses. Went way back. Was a wonderful website. I just can't remember the name. It was almost like a intaglio print to look at the pages. You would find details about Kimcsem there. K

PICASSO LIVES AT LANE’S END: A. P. INDY
    Published Wed 12/16/2015
Ireland has her Galileo, but almost a decade before he came along, A.P. Indy was born. His courage on the track dazzled us. And his contribution to the development of the North American thoroughbred has been beyond brilliant.

BATEAU: MAN O’ WAR’S SPECTACULAR DAUGHTER
    Published June 23, 2016
Bateau was one of the very best of Man O' War's daughters when it came to racing, but she risks being forgotten because of one failure that was completely beyond her control. Hers is also a cautionary tale: the same fate often befalls great thoroughbreds today.

A TRAIN, A BOAT & A BICYCLE: JOHNNY, THE COUNT & THE TRIPLE CROWN
    Published December 13, 2016
Thanks to your support, messages and enthusiasm, THE VAULT goes into its 7th year in 2017. I can hardly believe it! This article, over two years in the making, is my special Christmas gift to each and every one of you. With it comes my warmest wishes for a joyous and safe holiday season, filled with laughter, surprises and special moments to cherish. Love, Abigail
HOF jockey and trainer Johnny Longden rode winners with a capital "W" -- champions like Swaps, Noor, Busher, Whirlaway, Round Table, Your Host and George Royal. But no matter how great the others were, Longden would say that "The Count" -- Count Fleet -- was the best of them all.

    24 “PIECES OF PROPERTY”
March 18, 2018 by THE VAULT: horse racing past and present
There were some great races (San Felipe, the fabulous Tough Sunday, Justify, etc.) the weekend of March 10, 2018 in the USA. But for me, THE story of that weekend had nothing to do with horse races.
(NOTE: No graphic images or footage of horse slaughter in this article.)

  • I wish Dina had looked a little more carefully at Thompsons before she'd jumped into this.

Unfortunately Thompson's runs this 'lot of horses, all or nothing, OTTBs' scam almost like clockwork. They were part of a huge $40K scam run in conjunction with HCHR last year.

I'm sorry but Dina unwittingly just continued the cycle with this particular lot. I don't believe Jacobson even has a contract to "direct ship" a steak across the border, let alone horses.
