That's exciting! I love guessing what they might look like. I was dead wrong about Z13, but I love him the way he is.

theres still the possibility that 14z will be a flashy as can be dark bay

i was doing some research and we are more than likely to have a foal that is Dark Bay or just Bay out of zenyatta. the majority of War Fronts offspring are dark bay or bay with some that are chestnut. still trying to see if we have a lone grey somewhere lol

i found that if War Front is bred with a grey mare then the resulting foal is a Bay: Waronthehomefront's dam is grey http://www.pedigreequery.com/waronthehomefront but sometimes this isnt always so, War Trader is a grey gelding whose dam is grey. but more likely than not we will have a dark bay or bay foal out of zenyatta
  • Well, of course I love the dark bay or just bay. Whatever they have will be beautiful. It will be interesting to see. Wonder if she might have a filly this time? Can't wait to find out.

i really hope its a filly, as good looking as the boys are a filly will look amazing and super cute
  • Rachel, since the factor is grey, does that mean Z14 could be grey or did The Factor get that from the dam?
One parent has to be grey. Since War Front and Zenyatta are not grey Z14 will not be grey.
  • Thanks Especially_Horses!
  • The top of Mentor Cane's blaze looks like a reverse of 13Z's.

You have to remember that the grey allele is dominant, so neither War Front, nor Z can have a grey baby. The fact that Z13 is a redhead means that Tapit is heterozygous for grey. If he were homozygous, Z13 would have been grey. Z13 is a recessive little redhead (wonder if he has freckles to go with that ginger hair?)

Saratoga: Shirreffs has tough start to meet
By Mike Welsch Daily Racing Form 07/31/2013 6:03PM
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer John Shirreffs' first summer at Saratoga hasn’t gotten off to a very good start.
His first starter, Zenyatta’s baby sister Eblouissante, acted up in the gate as the field was being loaded for the Shuvee, suffering some minor bumps and bruises, was bumped after the break, and ultimately finished sixth and last in her stakes debut. Last Sunday, Shirreffs’ top sprinter, Mentor Cane, finished fourth in the Grade 2 Amsterdam after bearing out badly throughout much of the race.

    2013 King's Bishop Stakes
    Published on Aug 24, 2013
Capo Bastone, a colt that had long failed to tap his potential, finally displayed his talent with a roaring finish to capture the $500,000 Foxwoods King's Bishop Stakes (gr. I) going away at odds of 28-1 Aug. 24 at Saratoga Race Course.

Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Capo Bastone delivered his first stakes victory for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. Capo Bastone found a seam between horses while racing near the rear of the 14-horse calvary charge in upper stretch and fired straight through down the lane to stun the Saratoga crowd with a two-length tally.

Mentor Cane, who had opened up a four-length advantage on the pack mid-stretch and looked a certain winner, settled for second, with Central Banker third. Forty Tales,
the 5-2 favorite in the field of 3-year-olds, finished fourth.

BY Jerry Bossert NY Daily News
It’s closing day at Belmont Park where the weather is beautiful for an autumn day with plenty of sunshine and a high of 60 degrees.
The main track and fast and the turf course is firm for the nine-race card that features nothing but 2-year-old racing including three $100,000 stakes.
    SUNDAY’S CARD: (Excerpts from article)
3RD: For the second straight day, trainer John Shirreffs saddled a winner at Belmont Park, when Peace Mission made a solid debut, taking over from Chomsky in the stretch before holding off the even-money Pletcher firster Surfing USA under Junior Alvarado. Rich ‘n’ Tuck came late to catch the tiring Chomsky for third.

4TH: Saez brought home his second winner on the day when Tea Time wired them to take the $100,000 Sharp Cat Stakes. The 3-5 chalk Miss Behaviour had to settle for second best, losing for the first time in her career after winning her first three starts, including last month’s Grade II Matron Stakes. The final time went in an ordinary 1:17.09.
