Did you see how the jockey held him back till the top of the stretch? Shirreffs likes his runners to save something for the end. He couldn't use that style at Santa Anita which next year will have something like over 7 months of racing.

That's one of the reasons he's in New York, where the tracks play fairer to closers.

Most top New York trainers head south to Gulfstream Park near Miami, Florida for the winter. I wonder if John will take the same route.

Hey John, it would be nice if you would be at Hollywood Park on it's closing day, December 22nd. It's gonna be fun, but highly emotional too.
  • not sure if he will be but i sure hope, hes got some horses hes taken over to hollywood park actually. Ebby has been taken there too and will work after she gets settled again.
  • I was missinformed, ebby isnt going to be at hollywood park. Shes going to continue training, but on the east coast still. John will give her time to re settle and go from there
  • Hollywood Park: Shirreffs making plans for Rookie Sensation, Eblouissante for 2014
By Track Notes Daily Racing Form Thurs. Nov. 7 2013
"Shirreffs had the bulk of his stable in New York from April until earlier this week
when some runners were sent back to his base at Betfair Hollywood Park.
He said more will arrive in California in mid-November.
Shirreffs said he plans to keep a small number of horses in New York over the winter before sending a sizable group back there in the spring."
John said that he is not planning to race Rookie Sensation in the Hollywood Derby,
but will wait until 2014 to start him as a 4 year old.
John mentioned no plans to start Ebby, but he did say that he was going to give her a couple of days off to get over her travels, then start her jogging, then training again."
  • Eblouissante Back at Hollywood With Shirreffs
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Sunday, November 10, 2013 7:05 PM
Eblouissante, half sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, has returned to Betfair Hollywood Park after being purchased for $2.1 million Nov. 5 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
The daughter of Bernardini and Vertigineux was part of a dispersal following the death of owner/breeder Eric Kronfield in May at age 71. The 4-year-old was acquired
by Ian Banwell's St. George Farms Stable and will remain with trainer John Shirreffs.
  • As long as he brings Ebby, Welcome to the east coast Shirreffs.
  • The Mosses have a horse in race 5 at Hollywood Park called Cervaro. Earlier John Sheriffs had one in race 4 called Super Sam, he broke slow and couldnt make the pace finished last :/ but it was his first race so, much room for improvement.
  • Cervaro- owned by Mosses trained by John Saddler. Super Sam- trained by Sheriffs owned by Adena Springs
  • Cervaro wins coming off the pace to win by 2 for the Mosses!

Odeon, Race 1 at Aqueduct. Its a claiming race, trained by sheriffs going on the turf making a good run for the finish went back and forth with the 8 horse only to come up short by a half length to finish second. Inquire sign is up however due to the 8 bumping Odeon...
  • Change of finish, Odeon wins it for Sheriffs and rightly so, that bump was pretty bad...not bad enough to cause a spill but to knock odeon off stride a bit
  • Backside 55 tweet & FB Wed. Nov. 13 2013
ODEON WINS the first race at Aqueduct via disqualification in a thrilling and contentious stretch duel! Congratulations to our fearless leader, John Shirreffs, and all of his crew at Barn 41, jockey Alex Solis, and owners Ann and Jerry Moss!

  • Did he get claimed?

    Here's the replay:

Definitely a bump to put Odeon offstride, and then Majestic Jess veered in on Odeon a couple more times. Congrats Odeon, John, and the Mosses!! Tom Durkin, the announcer messes up the order of finish at the end though.
  • Another one at Aqueduct for Sheriffs, Katies Garden. Post 2 Aqueduct race 1
  • Katies Garden got second, she ran well but there was no catching the winner
