boston Baked Bean is a thoroughbred gelding, he was at auction with the potential to be bought by the kill buyers. He was rescued and had alot of TLC. This is the fb statement by his rescuers

I'm glad too, the classic will be an amazing race.

  • Prospective retired to Ocala, Florida. No injuries, just plain ol retired.

I wonder why they wouldn't want to stand him in Canada?

Well he will be placed in one of the best and oldest farm ever.

  • Oxbow retired. He will stand at Taylor Made Farm for the 2014 breeding season. He will stand for $20,000. http://www.taylormadestallions.com/articles/oxbow-2013-preakness-hero-to-taylor-made-stallions.html
  • I know I just saw that. What is going on....
  • Gotta be an injury for Oxbow. Hes been out of the spotlight for a good bit now, now hes retired. I was reading comments about his works, someone said he wasnt looking good, but that was months ago.
  • I would guess injury which i believe was why they gave him the last half of the year off? Maybe her never healed to their liking?
  • Oxbow was trained by D. Wayne Lukas. Enough said. If he finds he has a good horse, he'll run him into the ground. Someone told me after the Preakness, that Oxbow would be retired by the end of the year due to injury, or worse (dead). History tends to repeat itself. TBs are not QHs.
I don't think he would do that? i would much prefer Lukas to train my horse before Baffert or Pletcher.

Baffert and Pletcher were students of Lukas. At least six well known horses Lukas had trained have retired due to injury - one of them also had a positive drug result. Another placed in the Derby and ended up breaking down and had to be euthanized in another graded race while another broke down and had to be euthanized in the Preakness. All were either 2 or 3 years old. That's why I said history tends to repeat itself. You push them too hard, they're going to breakdown one way or another.
  • Yup, ive heard stories of Lukas. Alot has been said since hes returned for a triple crown bid. Hes been training Oxbow around the opposite way of the track, he says it makes him stay focused, people have said otherwise. Idk, hes a crowd pleaser tho, brings in random people for the win photo and lets u pet his pony and talks with u. Pletcher doesnt do that.
  • Lukas is from the old school of trainers, Pletcher is new school and more of a businessman. Lukas has already made his mark in racing and is in the HOF. I've met and talked to several old school trainers and they're very approachable and enjoy answering questions or talking about horses that they trained years ago, so it doesn't surprise me that Lukas is like that. I still think he doesn't need to run them into the ground to show he has a talented horse in his barn. I think Pletcher is finally learning that lesson and doesn't have half his barn working towards the Derby like he did the last couple of years. He does need to relax though:)
  • Shug says the BC Dirt Mile will be Hymn Book's final race

There's a couple of videos on Twinspired facebook dated 5/14/13 that shows a mare licking her foal while still lying down...bonding right after birth and her foal learning how to suckle from mama...cool close-up of the foal nursing. Facebook said the foal was a fast learner!

Either way...Might be a Kylea issue as to how many entries per discussion topic this forum can handle. Current MareStare has a whopping 8,801 entries so far!!!
