He did get in, finishing 10th of 12. He also was claimed for $40,000 by trainer John Sadler and Hronis Racing.

Labeq, a 4-year-old gray gelding by Tapit out of Life is Sweet, won for the first time today in a $40,000 maiden claiming race over 1 1/16th mile on the inner turf course at Belmont Park. He was not claimed. He is owned by by Pam & Martin Wygod of Shadwell Stable and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. Interesting to note the two Tapit sons of Life is Sweet both were gelded in the past year.
  • Maybe another son of Tapit, Ziconic, has been gelded too and we just don't know about it yet.

Thank you. I have been looking for some listing of the Lady Pamela foals and had no luck. Interesting they bred both Sweet Promises and Lady Pamela to Union Rags for 2019. Must have liked what they saw in the 2018 Union Rags-Sweet Promises filly.

@BetsyB The breeder of the 2019 Union Rags colt is listed as Blackstone Farm LLC which is in PA. Blackstone Farm bought Sweet Promises at the 2018 Keeneland November sale for $130,000. The Wygods do own her 2018 Union Rags filly though.

Wouldn't she have been sold in foal for 2019 foal? It doesn't seem that Blackstone would have been breeder for Sweet Promises 2019 foal if they bought her at November 2018 sale. She would have already been pregnant...

@KMM I saw in a youtube video about TB horse sale that when a pregnant mare is sold the buyer of the mare will be listed as the breeders of that foal despite not having bred the mare to that stud.

Good to know. Seems kind of like giving credit where it isn't due...

Catching up -- 4-year-old gray gelding Labeq (Tapit-Life is Sweet) finished second in a 1 1/16th-mile starter allowance race on turf July 19 at Saratoga. The chart states he was bumped in the first turn and ran wide almost the entire way to narrowly gain the place, though "no match for the winner," finishing 3 lengths behind. Gives the boy a win, second and third for four starts in 2019.
  • Zest is running July 28th in a maiden special weight (race 8) for fillies and ares years old and upward going 1 1/16th miles on turf at Del Mar. She will be ridden by Mike Smith. She is trained by John Shirreffs and owned by Martin Wygod, Pam Wygod, and Lessee.

That's quite a turnaround. This race is shorter than his last one. Hope that bodes well for him.
  • raceonraceon Member
He finished 3rd in that race on Aug. 4th.

And, he's back on the racetrack ... Lifeline is entered Aug. 29 in Race 4 at Del Mar, a 1 1/16th-mile turf claiming race for $25,000-$22,500, three-year-olds and up. Post time is 3:35 p.m. Pacific.
  • How did he do in the Aug 29 race? I hate to see them in claiming races. Sometimes they slip into undesirable hands.

    He finished second to last.
  • Oh. Poor boy. Hope he has a good landing with that kind of record. Hope we can keep him in view.
