QueenZFan22 is just stating what went on; you are entitled to your conjectures and what ifs.
  • Waspirant is a 2 year old colt by Union Rags out of Life is Sweet. He is bred and owned by the Wygod's and I believe he is trained by Cliff Sise based on his workoyts being at San Luis Rey? Here is his equibase page: https://www.equibase.com/profiles/Results.cfm?type=Horse&refno=10409805&registry=T&rbt=TB
  • Zest is running July 27th in an allowance optional claiming race (race 2) for fillies and mares 3 years old and upward going one mile on turf at Del Mar. She will be ridden by Abel Cedillo. She is trained by John Shirreffs and owned by Martin Wygod, Pam Wygod, and Lessee.

Huh. That was a weird turf race. I almost wonder if Sherriffs was just trying to get a race into her and only had turf options.

She was there until the end.
  • Looks like she got squeezed a bit for room and after that the jockey wasnt hard on her

  • Thanks for posting the replay. I missed it while getting a haircut. Sigh. Glad he won.

    From Blood Horse:

    Del Mar
Waspirant also broke through the maiden ranks Saturday, but on the opposite coast at Del Mar. The 2-year-old Union Rags colt is out of Pam and Martin Wygod's dual grade 1-winning Storm Cat mare Life Is Sweet.

Bred by the Wygods, Waspirant is campaigned in partnership with Lessee Wygod and trained by John Shirreffs.

Making his second start Saturday, he raced just off the pace under Umberto Rispoli, then closed quickly late in the stretch of the one-mile contest to score by three-quarters of a length in a final time of 1:40.03 on a fast track. In his Aug. 8 debut at six furlongs on the Southern California track, Waspirant raced in sixth under Rispoli but had little to give at the end and finished fourth.

He is listed as an OUT!
  • What does that mean? Was he pulled out of the sale?

@VA_in_CA Yes he was. I assuming that means they will keep him but I'm not 100% sure.

    A lot of outs.
  • FWIW, even as far back as April the training farms were being completed booked out bc so many breeders expected having to keep sales yearlings. A bit of a problem when more two year olds than usual hadn’t/haven’t moved to the track yet.
