Other than the saying "if you can't afford the father go to a son", can someone provide me compelling reasons why a breeder should consider either Exaggerator or Nyquist? The stud fee for Nyquist has been announced at $40,000. Exaggerator's fee is still to be announced. Is it possible it will be equal or higher than Palace Malice's $20,000 fee? I especially find it hard to believe that there would be much interest in Exaggerator and it will be interesting to learn what value they put on his stud fee. I just think there are several proven but underrated stallions out there that bring more to the table. I do realize there are differences in breeding for the commercial market or breeding to race. Either way, I don't find either of these two particularly compelling at this stage, but I would select Nyquist over Exaggerator.
Edit: Just saw the stud fee for Exaggertor is $30,000.
Exaggerator is of completely different physical type to Curlin, and his damsire Vindication (who he is a damn near carbon copy) died at only 8. He is an absolutely gorgeous, good-sized horse and will probably get very commercial offspring. There is definitely a lot of interest for such a good-looking guy. Really deep tail female family him, too.
Buuuut Exaggerator is also standing at WinStar . . . so add $10,000 to what you'd think a reasonable fee would be And with Nyquist right now you have him or Outwork if you want a Mo but can't get to Mo, so.

I was thinking the same thing for Nyquist. Also, he was a very nice running horse. I`m not even sure why they couldnt get him restarted. Might try to figure it out some time.

Nice work with Exaggerator.
Rumor has it Darley wasn't happy with how he was campaigned post-Derby and might have started kicking buckets. Better to retire quickly while the Derby is still fresh than possibly fizzle out for an entire season (like Bayern), and then have to compete with better Mo boys than Outwork.
But Uncle Mo had an odd growth pattern, that Nyquist seems to be following . . . Evening out and looking like he's mostly done, then shooting up several inches. Uncle Mo was not an overly large racehorse, but he is a giant of a stallion - and not just in girth. Nyquist probably would have been benefited from being turned out for a few months to grow up.
Dirt Mile Hero Tamarkuz Retired to Shadwell Monday, November 7, 2016 Shadwell Stable’s GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Tamarkuz (Speightstown–Without You Babe, by Lemon Drop Kid) has been retired and will stand at Shadwell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, the farm announced Monday. His fee has been set at $12,500. http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/dirt-mile-hero-tamarkuz-retired-to-shadwell/
That's my boy! I will miss seeing him race, but I am glad he has been retired sound. Such a handsome guy. He should be great. Can't wait to see his first foals.
I just saw that! D= That's enormously disappointing. I was really looking forward to seeing him race as a 3yo. I feel like we barely scratched the surface with him.
Not quite sure where else to put this, but it was just announced that Take Charge Indy has been purchased by the Korea Racing Authority and will stand in South Korea in 2017. That's pretty disappointing. I was never a huge fan of his conformation, but he has a jaw dropping pedigree.
I'm not super surprised TBH, he was at WinStar and his babies haven't been looking too hot. Will Take Charge is 2x the price but he's been putting much nicer babies out there and is more popular. TCI "only" covered 104 mares this year too . . . He bred 151 last year.
What's interesting to note is that WinStar included a buyback clause so that if his offspring turn out to do really well on the racetrack, they can bring him back to the States.

Hyper sold for $5000 at Keeneland and is now going to be standing at stud in Ontario. He is 9 and a GII winner.
