Isn't he the stallion who the Japanese breeders were getting frustrated at cause he is a picky one to mares and refused to breed several mares brought to him while in Japan? The stallion farm who stood the stallion I am thinking about was pumping the poor stallion with hormones to see if he would be more willing to breed more mares. That was on and article about how the Japanese often send a non productive horse to slaughter and was asking if this stallion was next in line. It was a horse which looks a lot like Empire Maker and if it was him then I am very grateful he came back to the USA as in the you tube video the manager of the stallion station said if he didn't start breeding better he would be eliminated from the stallion station.

Empire Maker has no issues covering mares (129 covered last year) and he is the opposite of non-productive. He was sold back to the US because of the success of his progeny and the success of American Pharoah. War Emblem is the one who refused to cover mares and he has since moved to Old Friends. War Emblem was still extremely successful as a sire, even if he had very few foals. War Emblem was NEVER at risk.
