HarnessracingAmerica @Harnessracingus Sad to report that Daryl Bier suffered a broken pelvis and his horse, Punxsutawney, was lost in an accident in morning qualifiers at Pocono
Odds are, Intense Holiday had gotten lmainitis sometime after his surgery. He had injured himself on 5/25, went into surgery the next day. Surgery was a success but found out he wont go back into racing (June 27th), would retire to become a stud. So it was between May 27th and June 12th that laminitis set in and ultimately killed him today (june 12th). Thats a 2 and a half week period. Wow
Haskin's article hit the nail on the head regarding this love/hate relationship we all share with racing. Such a huge loss for all connected with Intense Holiday, many condolences.
sorry to do this after such an awful day already, but needs to be put up

Intense Holiday euthanized By Jack Shinar | Bloodhorse Updated: June 13, 2014 Grade 2 winner Intense Holiday, who underwent surgery recently for a condylar fracture to his right foreleg after being injured in training, was euthanized June 12 due to laminitis. Owner Starlight Racing reported that Intense Holiday, who ran 12th in this year's Kentucky Derby, developed laminitis in both forelimbs days after undergoing surgery May 27 at the Hogan Equine Veterinary Clinic in New Jersey. The injury occurred May 25 when the Todd Pletcher-trained Intense Holiday was working in company with stablemate Commissioner at Belmont Park, where he was preparing for a start in the Belmont Stakes. http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/story/_/id/11076222/intense-holiday-euthanized-due-laminitis From the article: "To lose such a strong and vibrant athlete like Intense Holiday just underscores the insidious, nondiscriminatory nature of acute laminitis," said attending veterinarian Dr. Patty Hogan. "No horse is immune to this disease and it can strike at any time and with little warning. Intense Holiday was an incredibly stoic patient and his toughness humbled those of us caring for him. "To this day, laminitis in the horse remains such a poorly understood disease process and our treatment options are so limited. I regret that we could not prevent the progression of the disease in this wonderful colt. It is a tragedy to lose him."
Beholder 'Questionable' for Del Mar Meet By Blood-Horse Staff June 13, 2014 8:04 PM Two-time Eclipse Award champion Beholder is likely out until this fall as she recovers from a cut on her left hind pastern sustained when finishing fourth in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park. "So far it looks like it's healing well," Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said June 12. "We've not had any infection, which is the important thing. It's questionable whether she would make the Del Mar meet." Read more on BloodHorse.com: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/85676/beholder-questionable-for-del-mar-meet#ixzz34ZKC30xy
